7 Start up essentials you’ll need (from what I’ve learnt)

by Clare Lancaster on November 6, 2008

  1. A dream. It takes courage to dream big and decide to design your life in a way that best suits you. It takes more courage to go after it.
  2. Belief. In your self, your dream and your ability to achieve it. No matter what. Even when that doubtful voice in your mind says “but what if…” or “you can’t do that…” tell it to shut the hell up.
  3. A list. This will keep you sane. If you know what you’ve got to do and what you’ve done you will feel cool, calm and in control. Never, ever, keep more than one “to do” list. It will drive you bonkers.
  4. The outdoors. Nothing will clear your mind and make you focused like a walk/jog/skip/whatever outside. Log off the computer and when you come back you’ll feel so much better and will be more productive.
  5. Fleetwood Mac. Greatest Hits, 1988.
  6. Keep information overload to a minimum – find a couple of good resources and stick to them.
  7. Just do it. The buzz you’ll get from creating something from nothing in a way that suits you makes all the late nights worth it!
